Random News and Notes 13 February
Yesterday in South Kansas City, Missouri, surveillance footage captured an unidentified woman pouring a liquid accelerant on a warehouse’s doors and windows before lighting it. The 900,000-square-foot building, owned by Platform Ventures in the I-49 Industrial Center, had been rumored for an ICE detention center, prompting protests and threats that led the company to back out of the federal sale earlier that day.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the brief flames with no injuries or major damage. The woman is still at large.
Hope she likes prison food.
Here’s a local incident that certainly caught my attention: A man from Lafayette, New York, is now required to complete 20 hours of community service as a consequence of an unusual act. Apparently, he decided to hurl a severed deer head at a group of anti-ICE protestors. I know it sounds unbelievable, but yes, you read that correctly – a severed deer head was projectile-weaponed at these protestors.

Now, this editor is on the lookout for roadkill to collect for the same purpose. 20 hours of community service seems a small price to pay for being able to disgustingly disrupt those idiots. Disorderly conduct – the charge here – is what is known as a violation under the New York penal code and not an actual crime. It is punishable by a $250 fine, 15 days in jail or community service.
It is my understanding that UNREPs are some of the most dangerous evolutions in the Navy. Right up there with carrier landings. So with that in mind, I present this next item. The Burke class DDG USS Truxtun hit USNS Supply during an underway replenishment yesterday.
The Navy has started an investigation into the cause of this incident. As of now, there are no injuries being reported on either ship. The damage on Supply looks relatively minor. I have not seen images of Truxtun.
I dunno how I missed this one. Andres Wilkinson, 52, a supervisory Customs and Border Protection officer in Texas, was charged with knowingly harboring Elva Edith Garcia-Vallejo, his niece who overstayed her visa, along with her minor child at his Laredo-area home.
Surveillance from June to November 2025 and her February 2026 interview confirmed he provided housing, credit cards, bill payments, vehicle access, and even drove her through Border Patrol checkpoints to places like San Antonio. If convicted, Wilkinson faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Quick Olympics update. Norway is still in the lead on the medal count. They have 8 golds and 18 total. Host Italy is in second with 6 golds and 18 total. The US has moved into 3rd with 4 golds and 14 total medals.
The Tkachuck brothers have been hot since the puck dropped. Brady scored the first goal for the US in this tourney. Too bad they don’t play on an NHL team I root for. Matt is with the Panthers, Brady with the Ottawa Senators.
