Random News and Notes 15 February

A group of surfers in Santa Cruz rescued a family after their boat capsized in heavy surf yesterday. About 10 local surfers, including big-wave champion Darryl ‘Flea’ Virostko and 14-year-old Ian Anderson, paddled into the dangerous 8- to 12-foot swells to pull the family to safety.

The kids – ages 3 to 9 – were wearing life vests but parents were not. They all escaped with minor injuries. Local officials praised the surfers’ quick action as “lifesaving”.

A student at an Anacortes, Washington High School was taken into custody for interfering with officers as they arrested another protester during an anti-ICE student walkout. Video footage captured the student repeatedly screaming ‘I want my mommy!’ during the detention.

Here’s more footage of the ‘student’ protest and the incidents that led up to the arrests. Normally, I just include one video of an incident like this, but I think more context is needed here.

I’m going to note a few things here. First, these kids were worked into a frenzy by some teacher or teachers at that school. Second, not one of them has ever faced actual consequences for their actions. Third, not a single one of them will learn a lesson from this incident. And finally, a minority of those kids were what I would call true believers. They were the ones actually making trouble. The rest just wanted to get out of class for the day.

Then there was this. I’m not even sure how to describe it, so just watch, trust me it’s worth it.

Nope, still got nothing other than LMAO.

I take that back, I do have something. What happened to shaming and bullying retards and fat f*cks like Chubby McRetard there. I swear, a lot of the issues in this country would be solved if we let kids pick on each other again.

It’s time for today’s Olympic update. Team USA men’s hockey came back from a 2-0 1st period deficit to beat the Danes 6-3. Brady Tkachuck scored the tying goal early in the 2nd and the team never looked back. If Team USA can beat Germany later today they will win the group and earn a bye into the quarterfinals.

With all apologies to our resident Canadian WhyNot, the Canadian curlers are a bunch of cheaters and worse, they get pissy when called out about it. During one of the ends during the match between Canada and Sweden, the Canadian vice skip had an illegal touch. The Sweden’s Oskar Eriksson called Marc Kennedy out for the double-touch and Kennedy erupted in insults and F-bombs.

Before our resident Canuck gets up in arms about me calling Kennedy a cheater let me quote the official World curling rules. “Rule R.5 (d) states the stone must be delivered using the handle of the stone. Touching the granite during forward motion results in the stone being removed from play.” Kennedy was clearly touching the granite.

Since the initial dustup, the Canadians have had a stone removed for double-touching in a game against Switzerland. It also seems that the Canadian double-touches have been noted against other opponents as well.

Here is what today’s medal count looks like:

Norway is still in the lead with 11/6/7 gold, silver and bronze respectively. Host Italy remains in 2nd with 8/4/10. Team USA is in 3rd with 5/8/4. The Canadian team finally picked up a gold in the Men’s dual mogul freestyle skiing competition. They are back in 15th place in the medal rankings with the single gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze.
