Random News and Notes 22 February
We start off this edition of RNN with the sports section. Why? you ask. Well Team USA beat America’s hat 2-1 in the gold medal men’s hockey game in Milano Cortina. Canada settles for silver and the Finns win bronze after beating Slovakia yesterday.
Anyway, today is the last day of competition and the Closing Ceremonies are scheduled to start 1430 eastern. Here is the medal count at time of press: Finland is far and away the team winner this year and has 18/12/11, Team USA is in a solid second with 12/12/9, the Netherlands has slipped into 3rd with 10/7/3, Host Italy is 4th with 10/6/14 (yeah I know they have 10 more than the Dutch, but the way the counts are weighted. . .), and rounding out the top 5 is Germany with 8/10/8. Canada failed to crack the top 10, sitting at #11 with 5/7/9. If the top 5 change after the final events, it will be updated in tomorrows RNN.
Now News!
The Secret Service shot and killed an armed intruder at Mar a Lago overnight. Early Sunday around 1:30 a.m., 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin from North Carolina drove onto Mar-a-Lago grounds near the north gate. When Secret Service agents and a sheriff’s deputy ordered him to drop his items, he raised the shotgun into a firing position, prompting them to shoot him dead at the scene.
It seems his family had reported him missing the day before; no one else was hurt, and President Trump was at the White House. The FBI, Secret Service, and sheriff’s office are investigating his background and the incident.
The imminent Nor’easter has been covered in this space since the WX models started to agree on a path. New York City and environs are forecast to get more than a foot of snow. There are blizzard warnings from central Virginia all the way to Boston.

Communist mayor of NYC Mamdummy asked for volunteer shovelers to help clear the snow. All week and good except for one thing: the ID requirements.
In the interests of full disclosure, this isn’t a ‘volunteer’ job in the strictest sense. It is more like casual labor, that is to say you will get paid to shovel by the city, hence the need for all the ID and the SS card.
Still, the fact that Mandummy is such an open borders, sanctuary city retard and then this, well I can smell the hypocrisy here.
There was a potentially terror related incident near Las Vegas Thursday. A 23-year-old man identified by law enforcement as Dawson Maloney is dead after he allegedly rammed a power substation outside of Las Vegas around 10 a.m. on Thursday and then committed suicide.
Law enforcement recovered two shotguns, a pistol, ammunition, flamethrowers containing thermite, and a cell phone from the vehicle, according to a press conference. The Albany, New York man apparently rented a vehicle and drove cross-country to Boulder City, Nevada.
