Air Force

A North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) F-16 fighter aircraft from the Colorado Air National Guard’s 120th Fighter Wing intercepts a U.S. Strategic Command B-52 bomber over North Colorado’s airspace, Feb. 24, 2026, as part of Operation GLOBAL GUARDIAN. The operation serves as a readiness exercise for NORAD, validating its tactics, techniques, and procedures against airborne threats. Operation GLOBAL GUARDIAN leverages a U.S. Strategic Command Bomber Task Force acting as a simulated threat to exercise aerospace warning and aerospace control as the Bomber Task Force transits between airspace.
