Random News and Notes 7 June
On this day in 1692 a massive earthquake hit the island of Jamaica. The quake destroyed the town of Port Royal. Dubbed the “Wickedest City on Earth”, Port Royal was situated on a highly unstable sandspit. Nearly two-thirds of the city sank into the sea almost instantly following a massive 7.5-magnitude earthquake and tsunami. Some 3,000 people lost their lives and the survivors fled to the mainland and established Kingston.
Hudson Stuck was an English born Alaskan missionary and experienced mountaineer. He was also the first person to summit Denali. In March 1913, the adventure-seeking Stuck set out from Fairbanks for Denali with three companions, Harry Karstens, co-leader of the expedition, Walter Harper, whose mother was a Native American, and Robert Tatum, a theology student. On this date in 1913, Harper, followed by the rest of the party, was the first person to set foot on Denali’s south peak.
On this date in 1965, the U.S. Supreme Court strikes down a Connecticut law banning contraception in the case Griswold vs. Connecticut. This landmark ruling regarding the right to privacy is cited in future significant cases, including Roe v. Wade, which established a constitutional right to abortion in 1973.
We’re going to start today’s news with a bit of a rant from this editor. You’ll see why in a second.
There was another riot in front of the Newark ICE facility at Delaney Hall. The retards were told an unlawful assembly had been declared and they needed to disperse. When they – inevitably – did not, riot police moved in and forcibly dispersed them. The aftermath produced thus video from Oliya Scootercaster:
The video shows the woman—dressed in keffiyeh, poncho, and goggles—insisting she only carried band-aids and snacks to aid others and tripped amid the crowd. She also claims to be autistic. Earlier footage places her at the front, leaning into police shields as officers ordered the unlawful assembly to disperse.
Now, here’s the rant. There is almost zero chance that retard is actually autistic. It really pisses me off when people weaponize diagnoses and this one irks me more than most. Being autistic – or trisomy or any other mental or physical issue – does not give licence to be an asshole. I really hope that ‘tard get identified, arrested and charged.
Now to more mundane, less high-blood pressure inducing news. A trailer hauling fireworks caught fire and exploded on I-75 near Chattanooga yesterday. The blaze started Saturday evening just past the Ooltewah exit in Hamilton County, Tennessee, with fireworks igniting one by one and exploding in every direction. Firefighters from Chattanooga and nearby departments battled the flames while dodging stray bursts, shutting down traffic in both directions.
Fortunately, no one was injured. The fire was extinguished and traffic cleared by Sunday afternoon. Fire officials are investigating the cause.
St. Catharine’s Catholic Church in east Columbus Ohio holds an annual FunFest to raise funds for the parish and the associated school. This year’s even was supposed to run from June 4-6 but shut down early on June 5. Why? Watch:
Groups of 500 to 800 urban middle and high schoolers sparked multiple brawls around 7 p.m. Police from Columbus and Bexley responded with over 100 cruisers, made 11 arrests for fights, mischief, theft, and vandalism. Church pastor Fr. Bob canceled the rest of the event for safety.

Singer Moby had a short run in the late 90s as the face of the techno scene. He achieved some crossover mainstream success with the song porcelain. Well, in what I can only consider as an effort to regain some relevance, he posted a photo of him flipping off the Trump Tower sign in NYC:
This is the most pub he’s gotten since trying to take on Eminem in 2000.
