Today was a light day in History, only a couple events of note happened on 23 July across the ages.
The coup that would eventually bring Gamal Nasser to power in Egypt kicked off on this date in 1952. The Society of Free Officers took control of the government in Egypt and deposed King Farouk. Initially, General Muhammad Naguib was installed as prime minister.
On this date in 1973, President Richard Nixon refuses to hand over his secret audio recordings to the Senate Watergate Committee and Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox, citing executive privilege. His refusal kicked off a legal battle that culminated in the U.S. Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling one year later that Nixon must hand over the tapes.
Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment on this day in 2011. She was 27 years old. While the cause was not immediately clear, it was later determined that Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning.

We start today’s news in Chiraq where Adamson Plumbing Contractors, a minority-owned firm, filed a mechanic’s lien on the architectural abortion that is the Jawa sand crawler err Obama Presidential Library. Owner Mike Owen told Fox News Digital his company absorbed $3.9 million in losses from working on the project. The company suspended operations on the Chicago Obama Presidential Center site in late June, laid off 25 union workers, and filed a $1.72 million mechanic’s lien claiming nearly $4 million unpaid from delays, design changes, and overruns.
Shit like this amuses this editor. The best part? The Obama foundation is trying to blame the general contractor for this.
James O’Keefe got another one. This time it was Brandon Newsom, director of business operations in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy. Newsom was caught on video criticizing the President, calling him a narcissist and called U.S. military actions in the Iran war stupid during a recorded conversation set up by James O’Keefe. He targeted policies like voluntary Christian prayer services and Schedule F reforms aimed at reclassifying civil servants for greater accountability. He also said he had enough power to undo most of the changes when the Trump presidency ends.
Acting Secretary Hung Cao placed Newsom on administrative leave on July 22, citing the statements as inappropriate and incompatible with department standards.
Special Prosecutor Jack Smith has officially been referred for prosecution for lying to Congress. The referral comes after it was discovered that Smith and his office illegally accessed the text messages of 44 sitting congressmen during his ‘investigation’.
The referral asks AG Todd Blanche to examine whether Smith’s conduct warrants charges under 18 U.S.C. § 1001 — the federal statute covering false statements to Congress.
The House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution regarding the Iran conflict. The resolution to halt military action in Iran passed by a 214-208 vote. The four Republicans that crossed the aisle to vote with all the Dems were Rep. Tom Barrett (R-Mich.), Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.).
Massie is a retard who lost and doesn’t count. Barrett and Davidson are unreliable back-benchers and Fitzpatrick comes from a toss up district. A lot is being made about those 4 crossing the aisle. It is less than it appears.
I have been very clear about my opinion on the current hostilities with Iran. It needs to be finished once and for all.
In a related note, the Houthi rebels in Yemen have said they are closing the Bab El Mandeb strait. They specifically named Saudi related shipping, but a Chinese flagged vessel was among their first targets.
There are reports that Iran had flown IRGC members and parts for missiles and drones into houthi controlled territory shortly before the blockade was announced.
