    Saturday Shootaround

After taking a week off, Saturday Shootaround, your place for 2A and firearms related news, returns. Today’s verse comes to us from another British WWI trooper, Isaac Rosenberg. Rosenberg was a member of the Kings Own Royal Lancasters and was killed in combat near Arras France in 1918.

Break of Day in the Trenches

    The darkness crumbles away.
It is the same old druid Time as ever,
Only a live thing leaps my hand,
    A queer sardonic rat,
As I pull the parapet’s poppy
    To stick behind my ear.
Droll rat, they would shoot you if they knew
    Your cosmopolitan sympathies.
Now you have touched this English hand
You will do the same to a German
Soon, no doubt, if it be your pleasure
To cross the sleeping green between.
It seems you inwardly grin as you pass
Strong eyes, fine limbs, haughty athletes,
Less chanced than you for life,
Bonds to the whims of murder,
Sprawled in the bowels of the earth,
    The torn fields of France.
What do you see in our eyes
At the shrieking iron and flame
    Hurled through still heavens?
    What quaver—what heart aghast?
Poppies whose roots are in man’s veins
    Drop, and are ever dropping;
But mine in my ear is safe—
Just a little white with the dust.

There was an interesting incident at the Indiana state Capitol building this week. Several high school gun control advocates affiliated with Students Demand Action confronted Indiana state Rep Jim Lucas over the right to carry. One of the kids asked Lucas if he carried a firearm. What makes this incident interesting is the fact Lucas was carrying at the time and brushed back his coattails to show the students.

“I’m carrying one right now,” Lucas said.

“Nothing about that makes me feel safe,” replied the student. . .

A student next told Lucas that people carrying firearms do not make them feel safe but rather threatened, prompting the following exchange:

“OK, those are feelings,” Lucas responded. “I’m talking facts.”

“That’s what this is about; this is about feelings,” replied the student.

“People who want to kill you don’t care about your feelings,” Lucas said.

Video of the incident wound up online, because of course it did. The reaction was mixed to say the least.

The students said they were caught off guard when Lucas showed his weapon. Alana Trissel, 17, said her heart dropped to her stomach.

“It was though all of my previous arguments were just invalid because I knew that at any given circumstance, he could end the entire conversation by choosing to end any of our lives,” Trissel said. “I just knew that that conversation wasn’t really a conversation because there was nothing I could say. I just felt unprotected and unsafe.”

What Alana failed to realize is that her arguments were invalid even without a gun. Facts always trump feelings. A lot of somebodies failed that girl, and her fellow gun control activists.

SHOT show has come and gone. Unlike past years, there wasn’t anything new that really interested me. It was the usual assortment of boutique ARs, rehashed pistol designs and tarted up optics. That said there were a couple of announcements/releases of note.

Ruger announced the gen 2 American rifle. It features a new stock, spiral barrel flutes and a new 3 position safety. MSRP is $729 for either the standard or the Ranch versions.

Christensen Arms, known for their high-end hunting and precision rifles, has announced the Evoke, a sub-$1000 rifle. The base model has an MSRP of $899. It comes with a proprietary Christensen Arms action
with a 3-lug bolt and 60-degree bolt throw, detachable magazine, hybrid grip angle, premium adjustable trigger, 416R stainless steel suppressor-ready barrel with an RFR-style brake and swivel sling studs. The upgraded models add a picatinny rail and adjustable cheek risers.

On the legal front, there was a big win in Commiefornia this week courtesy of St Benitez. U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez ruled the California ammo background check law unconstitutional. This law also prevented Californians from bringing back ammo purchased out of state. From the ruling:

It is Senate Bill 1235’s requirement of a background check for every purchase that is challenged here. Why the egislature eliminated the voter-approved 4-year permit system in favor of an everypurchase background check scheme is not apparent. Without prejudging the discarded 4-year permit system envisioned by the voters of California, such a system would clearly be a more reasonable constitutional approach than the current scheme.

Today, a person may choose to submit to a full credit check to buy an automobile. But he is not required to pass the same credit check every time he needs to refill his car with gas or recharge his battery at a charging station. And the Constitution does not mention a right to own automobiles (or carriages or horses). Similarly, when a person chooses to buy a firearm, he is required to undergo a full background check. However, until now, he was not required to also go through a background check every time he needs to refill his gun with ammunition. And the Bill of Rights commands that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. With the recently enacted ammunition background check laws, gun owners in California undergo background checks more than one million times each year simply to buy ammunition. They are not allowed to buy ammunition from out-of-state vendors and have it delivered to their homes. They are not allowed to buy ammunition in Arizona or Nevada and bring it with them back into California. Though they are citizens entitled to enjoy all of the constitutional rights, Californians are denied the Second Amendment right to buy ammunition for self-defense at least 11% of the time because of problems with the background check system.

As of this writing, the ruling is in effect but the state has appealed to the 9th circus.

The South Carolina State Senate just approved constitutional carry in that state. The bill was passed in the state House last year but will have to return to that chamber for a reconciliation vote as the language of the Senate version is slightly different than that of the House version. After that it goes to Governor Henry McMaster’s desk for his signature.

  • Two Largest Democrat States Lose Trillions as Mega Corporations Flee Disastrous Policies, Head South

Two Largest Democrat States Lose Trillions as Mega Corporations Flee Disastrous Policies, Head South

    Mike Miller | RedState

In a recent RedState article, I included a prophetic line from a 70s rock classic: “Tax the rich, feed the poor, til there are no rich no more.” Arguably, California and New York have more eagerly and stubbornly followed that disastrous utopian advice than any other state in the Union.

As a result, the largest two Democrat-run states are getting exactly what they paid for.

Correction: Exactly what their fed-up taxpayers have paid for.

So how bad is it? Let’s put it this way: New York and California have each lost more than $1 trillion in managed assets as financial firms and Big Tech firms have fled to Texas, Florida, and other southern states. Moreover, the exodus continues.

What did Einstein tell us? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity? Yeah, that.

A Bloomberg analysis of the corporate filing of more than 17,000 firms conducted since the end of 2019 found bleak results for both states.

From the start of 2020 through the end of March 2023, more than 370 investment companies – managing about $2.7 trillion in assets – moved their headquarters to a new state, according to Bloomberg.

The overwhelming majority of the migration was from high-tax states in the Northeast and on the West Coast and into lower-tax states like Florida and Texas, which boast no income tax.

The departure of companies like Elliott Management, AllianceBernstein and Charles Schwab has drained the two states of thousands of high-paying jobs, further burdening city and state finances by sapping tax revenue.

Commercial property markets have also buckled under the weight of the sudden exit of the finance industry, at the same time they are struggling to find new tenants amid the surge in remote work.

But, hey — no biggie, right?

I mean, what could be more important than run-away violent crime, homelessness, hopeless drug addiction, revolving-door jail cells, and ridiculous woke policies?

Besides, as socialist lunatics like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders endlessly babble on, evil corporations don’t pay their “fair share,” anyway. So, good riddance! Don’t let the door hit you!

    Wait.

It’s not just mega corporations that are exiting New York and California in record numbers; their citizens are also fleeing in droves for better climes — and I don’t just mean the weather — as well.

According to a Bank of America analyst:

We constructed near real-time estimates of domestic migration flows and found that pandemic migration trends are not reversing,” the analysis said. Since the first quarter of 2023, the data “suggests that cities that saw a large influx of people during the pandemic have still been growing faster than other cities in recent quarters.

Out-of-control San Francisco experienced a one percent drop in population in just the first quarter of 2023, and more than a three percent drop from 2020 to 2022. Likewise, New York City lost roughly one percent of its population in early 2023 and three percent in the two prior years.

One would think a Big City Democrat with a modicum of intelligence would see the writing — or the graffiti, as it were — on the wall and think, “Wait a minute… we need to take an objective look at the impact of our insane policies and make some serious changes.”

Welp, one would be wrong to think that.

Take Chicago, for example. As we reported earlier in August, gang shootings have increased — even on the Northside — to the point where a community group recently emailed a newsletter featuring a desperate plea — dubbed “The People’s Ordinance” — asking gang members not to fire guns or commit shootings between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Who’d a thunk that Chicago voters, who kicked prior Mayor Lori Lightfoot to the curb, would turn around and elect Brandon Johnson, of all people, who is proving to be at least as disastrous as was Lightfoot, and likely worse in the long run?

    The Bottom Line

Comedian George Carlin warned: “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.”

The whole Democrat thing makes me wonder if, somewhere, Albert Einstein and George Carlin are enjoying a couple of beers while shaking their heads. Or maybe, having a good “We told you so” laugh.

  • Law Catches Up With Infamous Bear Burglar

Law Catches Up With Infamous Bear Burglar

    KAY SMYTHE | DailyCaller

Authorities in California arrested a mama bear and her cubs, Friday.

California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife “safely immobilized” the mama black bear after she and her three cubs were found responsible for a series of break-ins and at least 21 counts of property damage dating back to early 2022, according to The Associated Press. The bear is known as 64F, and will be relocated to a sanctuary in Colorado because us humans are too pathetic to live in symbiosis with nature.

Her cubs have been removed from her custody, and placed in a rehabilitation facility in Sonoma, California, the outlet continued. The people (monsters) who made this happen think that they “can discontinue the negative behaviors they learned from the sow and can be returned to the wild,” according to the department.

I disagree with Kay here. Not that most humans are too pathetic to live in harmony with nature, that’s pretty evident, but that the CDFW are monsters. They did not create this situation, that’s on the residents of the area. In my home state, NY, those bears would have all been euthanized. The potential rehab of the cubs is a plus in my book.

I have to wonder, does Kay know Cane toads are an invasive species in Australia? And that they have no predators there? And that they are poisonous in all phases of life?

DNA analysis revealed that 64F is one of three different bears responsible for more than 150 incidents throughout Northern California and Nevada. It was initially assumed that one bear, “Hank the Tank,” was behind the crimes. In early 2022, identified a suspect, a 500-pound male, and discussed euthanizing him, but DNA evidence later showed that the break-ins attributed to “Hank” were actually the work of at least three different bears.

So let me get this straight. California’s lawmakers won’t allow police to arrest humans for breaking into people’s homes, attacking people, using drugs in public, selling drugs in public, living on the sidewalks, being naked and on drugs on the sidewalk or in kids parks and many other heinous offenses.

But the same lawmakers will allow California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife to capture a mama bear and separate her from her cubs, arguably one of the most evil things a human can do to any animal. This is the world we live in folks, and it is upside down.

This undated photo provided by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife shows the South Lake Tahoe conflict bear 64F. California authorities have captured four suspects in multiple break-ins at homes around South Lake Tahoe, a mama bear and three of her cubs. The Department of Fish and Wildlife says DNA has confirmed the large female black bear and her three little accomplices were responsible for at least 21 instances of property damage since 2022. A fed bear is a dead bear. That’s what a wildlife biologist told me several years ago when I came across a bear in a trap in the Adirondacks. The bear in question, a 2 year old male, had been repeatedly fed by tourists and had become a nuisance. The bear was trapped and euthanized after breaking into cars, dumpsters and camps. Please, please DO NOT feed bears or any other wildlife.

To Promote Inclusion, California Passes Law Requiring Men To Sit When They Pee

    LIFESTYLE·Sep 5, 2022 · BabylonBee.com

SACRAMENTO, CA — This week, the California State Assembly announced that they have passed a new measure requiring men to demonstrate solidarity with the trans community by sitting when they pee.

“When the state legislature first introduced bill P.33.51T, or the ‘Sit Together’ Act, I knew we had to make this happen,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom. “I mean, I’ve never once peed standing up – but as always, I am the exception that proves the rule of bigotry.”

The law includes provisions for the demolition of existing urinals, with “reading stations” rebuilt in their place. These reading stations will include copies of inclusive reading material helping cis-men learn to do better. The government said it plans to pay for the reading material with all the money saved on janitors since men should no longer miss the pot and pee on the floor.

Critics say that the men’s bathroom lines may now exceed women’s bathroom lines, but advocates foresee an expected windfall for mobile game developers. Some industry leaders have already driven up the stock of the biggest mobile games, with genius stock-guesser Paul Pelosi recording a massive gain in his portfolio following the legislation.

At publishing time, the state’s 9 remaining conservatives were taken into custody after being caught standing up to pee. They are expected to undergo gender re-education training, followed by gender reassignment surgery to help really increase their inclusiveness.

  • In California, bumblebees are now fish

    JAZZ SHAW | HotAir

Before you ask, no. This wasn’t stolen from the Babylon Bee or the Onion. But since we’re talking about California, it can be hard to tell sometimes. Fortunately, this isn’t some new progressive push to provide social justice for bees or even fish. And the underlying issue that was taken up by a California State Appellate Court is a serious one. But the results were simply bizarre, as with so many other things in the Golden State. At issue was a request from an agricultural group to have the state protect California’s collapsing bumblebee population under the Endangered Species Act. Following the letter of the law, bees would not qualify, but fish do. So the court declared them to be fish. (Fox News)

A bumblebee is a fish under California law, a California court said in a ruling this week.

And thus, the bumblebee should be protected by the state’s endangered species ordinances, court documents show.

In the case, Almond Alliance of California v. Fish and Game Commission, the California State Appellate Court of the Third District said the “issue presented here is whether the bumblebee, a terrestrial invertebrate, falls within the definition of a fish,” according to legal documents.

The law is fairly broad and generous when it comes to which living things can or can’t be put on the endangered species list. Pretty much any plant can be included. The animals are defined a bit more specifically, though it applies to nearly all aquatic creatures, land animals, or birds. But they didn’t include insects.

The judges appeared to admit that this was a “liberal” definition of the word fish, but they had an explanation for that as well. They wrote, “although the term fish is colloquially and commonly understood to refer to aquatic species, the law, as it is written, makes the legal definition of fish… not so limited.”

Well, thanks for clearing that up for us. Apparently, anyone can be a fish at this point. Of course, I probably shouldn’t be giving the transgender lobby any new ideas or we’ll have people identifying as fish on their driver’s licenses before the end of the year.

But seriously, how did they wind up settling on fish as the default substitute classification? Fish are aquatic by nature. Bees don’t go into the water of their own free will. Couldn’t they just have classified them as some sort of land animal? After all, they do alight on the land sometimes. For that matter, why not just classify them as birds? They both fly and hang out in trees. But again, I have to remind myself that this is California we’re talking about.

I’m not trying to make light of the situation with the bees, by the way. Bee colonies across the United States have been dying off at an alarming rate. The phenomenon has since been officially defined as “Colony Collapse Disorder,” and it’s still not well understood. If you find yourself wondering why we should care, bees are involved in the production of far more than just honey. They pollinate one-third of the fruits and vegetables that people consume. If you lose all of the bees, a large segment of the world’s food production ceases. And that includes coffee.

The average person sitting down to dinner probably doesn’t realize the important role bees played in preparing that meal. Here’s something that might surprise you: One out of every three mouthfuls of food in the American diet is, in some way, a product of honeybee pollination—from fruit to nuts to coffee beans. And because bees are dying at a rapid rate (42 percent of bee colonies collapsed in the United States alone in 2015), our food supply is at serious risk.

The bees aren’t entirely gone yet and there are signs that they may even be experiencing a recovery. But it’s worth keeping a close eye on the situation. If the bees need to go on the endangered species list to keep them chugging along, I’m not going to oppose the idea.

  • Prosecutors and Media Make Some Unique Moves in Antifa Attacks…

Prosecutors and Media Make Some Unique Moves in Antifa Attacks…

Prosecutors and Media Make Some Unique Moves in Antifa Attacks on Trump Supporters

Usually, when we’re talking about prosecutors in California, we’re talking about the failure to hold criminals accountable, especially when it comes to groups like Antifa, who constantly seem to skate any real punishment for their actions with many liberal district attorneys.

But finally, there seems to be some action in San Diego in a case where Antifa attacked a pro-Trump rally back in January. The District Attorney’s office filed charges against at least 10 Antifa people and there were some important things of note in the action.

The charges range from conspiracy to riot charges to assault and illegal use of tear gas.

    https://twitter.com/ACatWithNews/status/1348174905284587520?s=20

The DA’s Office alleges 16 people were either sprayed with mace and/or attacked with weapons, including chairs, sticks and glass bottles, including a juvenile who was hospitalized for a concussion and a dog that was sprayed with mace.

How crazy are they that they even sprayed a dog?

First, District Attorney Summer Stephan’s office made it clear that they weren’t falling for the typical Antifa malarkey that they were just innocent protesters that were antagonized into attacking people.

“Video evidence analysis shows that overwhelmingly the violence in this incident was perpetrated by the Antifa affiliates and was not a mutual fray with both sides crossing out of lawful First Amendment expression into riot and violence,” District Attorney Summer Stephan’s office said in a news release, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The defendants “are self-identified to be affiliated with Anti-fascists or Antifa” and gathered on Jan. 9 in San Diego to take “direct action” against a pro-Trump “Patriot March,” according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. “Direct action” is defined as “acts of violence such as assault, battery, assault with deadly weapons, arson, and vandalism,” according to the DA’s office. Police declared an unlawful assembly the day of the clashes.

Now, that’s remarkable for a California DA because they’re being honest about what this situation was – Antifa coming to attack people. They’re also using and defining the leftist term of “direct action,” indicating they understand what was going on. But even beyond that, what makes this case different is that there was a conspiracy to commit riot charge levied, the first time that kind of a charge has been used, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. That’s alleging this wasn’t just some random folks getting out of hand but people organized with a purpose of direct action against the Trump supporters.

One group of the anti-fascists originated in San Diego, while another group formed in Los Angeles a week before the pro-Trump rally, according to the criminal complaint. They’re accused of circulating a Jan. 2 social media post calling for a counterprotest to the pro-Trump rally, “in essence agreeing to take part in the ‘direct action.’ Others agreed by showing up in Pacific Beach on January 9th, 2021 and participating in the violence,” prosecutors allege, according to the criminal complaint.

In addition to that, the description from the San Diego Union-Tribune included something that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a mainstream description of Antifa, something that is infuriatingly never mentioned by the MSM.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies describes “Antifa” as a “decentralized network of far-left militants who oppose what they believe are fascist, racist, or otherwise right-wing extremists” and whose adherents “frequently blend anarchist and communist views.” Anti-fascists typically don’t shy away from clashes, instead using what they call “direct action” to confront the systems, groups and individuals they view as their political enemies.

Notice they said that “A” word and the “C” word. Will wonders never cease? Now, one would think this wouldn’t be hard since Antifa folks are frequently carrying Communist flags or the red and black flags (red for Communism and the black for anarchy). But MSM never mentions that part of the action, so I congratulate the San Diego Union-Tribune for being blunt in those facts.

I’d like to think this signals a change afoot in the way that the police and the media have been dealing with Antifa. I welcome the folks in San Diego finally getting what’s going on here and taking some real action. By: Nick Arama – December 7, 2021 https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2021/12/07/prosecutors-and-media-make-some-unique-moves-in-antifa-attacks-on-trump-supporters-n487784

Comment/Opinion: Tolerance and patience has reached it’s limit. If the Left/Democrats think that the majority are willing to stand idly by and watch a continuation of the Antifa/BLM lawlessness; they would be sadly mistaken. But, I think many within the Woke California judicial and media system have acknowledged they are standing on a precipice.

  • A Racist Attack on a Police Officer

A Racist Attack on a Police Officer

A Racist Attack on a Police Officer Lead to a Harassment Claim, Then the Body-Cam Footage Got Released

Being a police officer is never an easy job, and that’s especially true when you consider the kind of daily abuse they take.

A prime example of that happened in Los Angeles recently, and it also shows just how important body cams are. An African-American woman launched into a racist attack against a LA Sheriff’s deputy. Afterward, she filed a complaint claiming she had been harassed.

Then the body-cam footage got released.

    https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1389346342573539331?s=20

And, this woman has “a history of making false claims.”

    https://twitter.com/BillFOXLA/status/1389347321645723648?s=20

As the video shows, the woman was completely in the wrong, attacking the Hispanic officer in a vicious manner.

Later it was also revealed this woman is a professor in the area, having worked at several different schools. Her name is currently being withheld, but it’s just a matter of time before it comes out. The way she throws around the word “murderer” and implies that the deputy is attempting to hurt her and her son is reminiscent of the white woman in Central Park last year who called police in hysterics, claiming that a black man was attempting to attack her.

Thankfully, this officer had invested in his own body cam as LASD doesn’t provide them universally yet. This situation could have gone completely sideways without that proof of what truly happened.

Would you want to be an officer in this environment? I know I wouldn’t want to be. This should remind everyone that while police aren’t perfect, they do a tough job and deserve our thanks.
    By: Bonchie – May 3, 2021 https://redstate.com/bonchie/2021/05/03/a-racist-attack-on-a-police-officer-lead-to-a-harassment-claim-then-the-body-cam-footage-got-released-n373709

Comment: This past year has been difficult for those within the police profession. Much, can be attributed to those within the political spectrum, such as Ted Wheeler, Mayor of Portland, Oregon and his catch and release program. Or propaganda facilitated by the US media; which are accountable to the CCP https://thenationalpulse.com/exclusive/ccp-media-calls-to-abolish-police/ But, for those police who support the Rule of Law and your service to the communities that you serve; we remain very grateful.

And no comment relevant Derek Chauvin & George Floyd, who was attempting to pass a counterfeit twenty dollar bill; from you know where.

  • Newsom Recall – What Are They Afraid Of?

Newsom Recall – What Are They Afraid Of?

Equality CA Came out Hard Against Newsom Recall – What Are They Afraid Of?

Lots of elected Democrats in California have publicly defended Gavin Newsom and attacked recall proponents, labeling them Trumpers, Q-Anon believers, insurrectionists, and more. The first special interest group to really come out against the recall, Equality California, echoed those sentiments in a curiously-timed press conference while pointing out how much the LGBT community in California “owes” to Gavin Newsom. (In other words, if you can’t keep your position because of your achievement, guilt interest groups into supporting you.)

While the deadline for recall proponents to deliver signatures to the various county registrars isn’t until tomorrow (March 17), and it’ll be about 30 days before anyone knows whether enough signatures will be verified, Equality California felt it necessary to hold a virtual press conference March 12 to strongly advocate for Newsom and praise his “leadership.”

That sense of panic and urgency shows that the members of Equality California feel the recall threat is very real and, in my opinion, threatens their political power in a very different way.

The group’s Executive Director, Rick Chavez Zbur, opened the presser. Of course, the word “extremist was the first out of his mouth. Immediately Mike Huckabee was referenced. He then hit the guilt button:

“Make no mistake, the coalition leading and funding this effort is made up of anti-LGBTQ+ extremists and pro-Trump activists. When Mike Huckabee cuts a check for a campaign, you can safely assume it’s not intended to help the LGBTQ+ community.

“At a time like this, when our community has been hit disproportionately hard by COVID-19, both the health and economic impacts, we need Governor Newsom as our partner and our champion, helping LGBTQ+ Californians recover. And that’s what’s at stake in this partisan power grab…This is the question. Do we keep moving forward with the governor who has always had our backs, who has always fought for us, who was bold and courageous when we needed him most, or do we move backwards?”

Asm. Evan Low, who is in a position to actually fix some of the problems in California’s bureaucracy as a powerful member of the Democrat caucus, brought up how the $100 million it would allegedly cost the state to hold a recall election could be better spent (if it wasn’t wasted by the legislature in other ways):

Gov. Newsom, you have been there with us; we are there for you. This is about the governance for all Californians. Think about the devastating cost of a fruitless recall effort that could cost upwards of $100 million. Think about the resources, the public hard-earned taxpayer dollars that those resources could go to, towards helping those who are struggling to put food on the table….

Evan, I’d suggest that you do your job and force a cleanup of the state’s unemployment division. That would help people a lot more than avoiding a recall.

State Sen. Scott Weiner got around to the real reason for this press conference.

This recall is just horrific….There is a reason why California has rejected right-wing Republicans and has not elected a Republican to statewide office in 15 years. That’s not just random….when you look at the people who are now wanting to be governor through this recall, they know they can’t win an actual election so they want to try to scam their way into office through a recall.

These are people who do not believe in climate change, do not believe in civil rights for LGBTQ people. These are people who are supporters of Donald Trump. We see Q-Anon people collecting signatures. This recall effort does not reflect California values.

See where this is going? There are a handful of Republicans who’ve said they will run to replace Gavin Newsom in a potential recall election, and, as far as I know, they are all straight men. Some are supporters of Donald Trump; at least one is not. As far as I know, they all believe in civil rights for LGBTQ people — but perhaps not the types of “civil rights” Scott Weiner believes in. However, the progressives in the state can say whatever they want about each of the candidates and California’s political reporters will lap it right up.

There’s one potential candidate California’s political reporters cannot smear as a homophobe, and that man’s potential candidacy scares Equality California and their supporters to death. That potential (likely, in my opinion) candidate is former Acting DNI, former Ambassador to Germany, and California resident Ric Grenell, who said at CPAC that his focus at that time was on ensuring that the recall qualified for the ballot and any decision about a candidacy would be made after it qualified, if it does.

For months Grenell has been one of the leading pro-recall voices, speaking out on Fox News, Twitter, and at CPAC on the issue, has statewide name recognition, the ability to attract major donors, and… he’s gay. The liberal media likes to ignore that fact because Grenell doesn’t fit their stereotype of what a gay man’s political beliefs should be, and Grenell, unlike many liberals, doesn’t preface everything he does with a statement about his sexual orientation. He simply excels at what he does, and he has the support of a major segment of conservatives not just in California, but across the country.

And that terrifies the people in Equality California, who believe they alone determine what the LGBT community in California need and what their political beliefs should be.

Comment: I agree with Jennifer’s analysis, as the potential of seeing Ric Grenell in the Governor’s mansion probably unsettles a number of those within the LGBT community; inclusive of those in the Democratic circles. But, I also see the Latino legal association (La Raza) feeling somewhat uneasy with the prospect of Ric Grenell as a candidate for Governor.

Watch: Cali Gov. Newsom Throws A Temper Tantrum, Threatens That the State Will Never Go Back To Normal, ‘Normal Was Never…

On a day in which the California Governor got some really bad news, Gavin Newsom was as defiant as ever.

During an address he threatened the state claiming they will never go back to normal.

“When this pandemic ends — and it will end soon — we’re not going back to normal. Because I think we all agree, normal was never good enough. Normal accepts inequity” Newsom said.

“We are bent but not broken. Bloodied but unbowed. Resolved to make it to brighter days ahead – to not let the pain of last year deter the hopefulness of tomorrow. The state of our state remains determined. I remain determined,” he declared.

“So to the California critics, who are promoting partisan power grabs and outdated prejudices, and rejecting everything that makes California great, we say this: we will not be distracted from getting shots in arms and our economy booming again,” he added.

Newsom knows his time is up and he is trying to appeal to the ultra woke leftists in his state to support him because data from those leading the recall show he’s in trouble.

FOX LA reporter, Bill Melugin reported that the campaign to recall Newsom announced that they have collected 2,060,000 signatures with a week to go before the March deadline. The campaign claims that a third party vendor has already verified 1.8 million signatures, they need 1.5 million to force a recall election.

Comment: Very early on, at the beginning of this Recall, it was quite apparent this was a skilled and coordinated team that were leading this effort. As, I believe this is Recall number 4 in the last two years. Prior, Recall efforts indicated their efforts had been somewhat sabotaged. Nice to see Californians have success and I hope there are many more positive changes in the future.

  • If I Hadn’t Seen the Data. . .

    If I Hadn’t Seen the Data. . .

I’m going to bury the lede on this one a bit. Bear with me, the payoff will be worth it.

We all know there is a spike in WuFlu cases in the US at the moment. At least some of the increase can be blamed on the Thanksgiving holiday, but certainly not all. For sure testing is up, and the key metrics for tracking the progression of the Chinese Coronavirus are the positivity rate and the number of hospitalizations. Cases really don’t mean much, as around 65% of those infected are asymptomatic.

To reiterate something I have said all along, for 99.5% of those infected, the Chinese Lung AIDS isn’t much worse than the seasonal flu. And if you’re younger than 60 and don’t have any underlying co-morbidities, your chances of coming through unscathed jumps to 99.9%. There have been more deaths from the China virus in those over 70 than younger than 65. That’s what we call an inverse distribution kids. . .

Now, would you believe me if I told you if we removed one state from the US totals cases, hospitalizations and deaths would actually be declining? And no, despite what you hear in the MSM, that state is not Florida. It’s actually one of the states with the tightest Chinese Coronavirus restrictions, California.

If you can’t see the tweet above, it took 9 months for California to hit 1 million cases, and just 6 weeks to hit 2 million. The only good news from Cali is that the rate of deaths isn’t nearly what it is in New York and New Jersey. At 626 per 1m California is at the low end, while NJ (#1) and NY(#2) are at 2,130 and 1,937 per million respectively.

    From Politico

“Nationally, there has been a kaleidoscopic application of every imaginable type of lockdown order with California being the most restrictive and inflicting the most devastation on small businesses and the most economically vulnerable service workers. And still, we are none the better as far as COVID is concerned,” California Restaurant Association President and CEO Jot Condie said in a statement. “In fact in L.A. where indoor and outdoor dining are completely shut down, with indoor dining [closed] since July, the virus rages on.” [….]

Assemblymember Jordan Cunningham (R-Templeton) argued that the state’s attempt to “shut down types of human interaction without seeing if that’s effective” was creating a backlash of sorts — “driving people to higher-risk activity” like gathering indoors at home, rather than places like restaurants.

“The public health officials have lost credibility with a huge section of the populace. They’re just tuning them out now,” Cunningham said. “The goalposts are moving all the time. … People are fed up with it and they don’t think it makes any sense, and they’re not wrong.”

I think Assemblyman Cunningham nails it. I see it every day in my home state of NY. New York is probably the second most restrictive state with “targeted” lockdowns and multiple restrictions on businesses. The Worst Governor in America™ seems hell-bent on killing as many upstanding New Yorkers as he can get away with. I noted in yesterday’s View that the governor has prioritized drug addicts over senior citizens for the vaccine.
