Random News and Notes 20 June

We start in California where the 9th Circuit has issued a stay in the CA National Guard case. And being the 9th, you’d expect a loss for Trump.

Au Contraire Mon Ami. The 9th stayed the district court ruling that Trump had overstepped in federalizing the Cali Guard in response to the LA ICE riots. The ruling was unanimous.

This editor has not read the ruling, but analysis from those I trust says the panel harshly rebuked the district court judge for applying his preferred solution and schooled him on the law at hand.

Sticking with legal matters for a second, the Supreme Court term is coming to an end. That means opinion releases, a lot of themDogers. SCOTUS dropped 6 today. Only two are moderately interesting. In Fuld v. Palestine Liberation Organization the Roberts opinion holds that the law that allowed damage suits against the PLO was constitutional and that the US courts were the proper venue.

The other one that holds some interest is Diamond Alternative Energy, LLC v. EPA. The opinion, written by Kavanaugh, holds that liquid fuel producers can sue the EPA over the California emissions standards waivers. This one may be a nail in the coffin of the fruits and nuts in Cali driving (pun intended) US emissions standards.

Elon Musk and SpaceX are revolutionizing the space space. His rockets have delivered more tonnage to space than any other space-going entity including NASA. The Falcon-9 has made 500 trips to space. Yesterday however, SpaceX suffered a setback. Starship suffered a rapid unscheduled disassembly during a static test fire.

Elon has famously stated, “If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough”. He believes you can learn more from a failure than you can from a success. Should be lots to learn from this one. . .

Maizie Hirono is one of the dumbest members of the Senate. She exposes her stupidity every time she tries to grandstand. Here’s a perfect example:

Hegseth handled this perfectly.

The defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers swung and missed, badly, yesterday. They issued a statement about ICE wanting to access their stadium in Chavez ravine.

The only problem? It wasn’t ICE. It was CBP and they did not want access to the stadium.

The Dodgers front office was apparently under immense pressure to make some sort of statement about the ongoing deportations and it looks like they took a shot here. It’s too bad they whiffed so badly and so publicly. Maybe they should stick to covering up for Ohtani’s gambling issues.

A pair of illegals were caught in Austin Texas recently. Big deal right? It is Austin after all. Sure, but where they were caught is a bit amusant. They were found under a bunch of hay bales in a trailer.

The replies are just chef’s kiss. . .
