Random News and Notes 10 December
A mere 14 shopping days are left kids. Get your shopping done early and enjoy a restful rest of the month.
This one somehow went under the radar here at MVAP HQ. It’s a couple of days old, but evergreen so to speak.
The United Thoroughbreds youth football team from Philadelphia was in Florida for a youth football tournament. Eight of the players decided it would be a good idea to shoplift a bunch of merch from a Dicks sporting goods in Polk County.
. . . identified as members of a Philadelphia youth football team in town for a national tournament.
All eight were charged with retail theft over $750 and conspiracy to commit retail theft.
Because of the arrests, the teens were unable to participate in their scheduled championship game, and their team lost the game.

Keep in mind these kids were all high-level travel team players. They would have been on the radar of D1 recruiters. Yet now, all eight face felonies for the thefts. They threw away their futures for a couple of thousand dollars in stuff.
There is good news about National Guardsman Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe. President Trump made the announcement that Wolfe had gotten up from bed at a rally yesterday.
Wolfe, 24, was shot by an Afghan immigrant at the same time as Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, who died from her wounds.
Yesterday we learned colors – specifically Pantone 11-4201 Cloud Dancer – were bad. Turns out type fonts can be bad too. Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered the use of New Times Roman in all official communications. Antony Blinken had called for the use of Calibri as it is viewed as more accessible.

Well you know who else changed fonts? Yup, the Nazis.
Here’s where it gets stupid. Rubio – or anyone else in the Admin for that matter – did not ban the use of Calibri. He specified the use of New Times Roman for official docs.
Mr. Herman has really taken it in the shorts over this insane take.
The fat piece of crap running Illinois just signed a new law. Yesterday, JB ‘Jabba the’ Pritzker signed Illinois House Bill 1312 in to law. It bars civil immigration arrests without judicial warrants at courthouses, hospitals, universities, and day cares. It allows lawsuits against violators and requires these sites to protect privacy and demand warrants for immigration-related actions by early 2026.
Pritzker calls it a defense against cruelty amid Trump administration policies. However, the law is clearly unconstitutional under the Supremacy Clause.
