Random News and Notes 6 April

Welcome to the Easter Monday edition of RNN.

Today – Easter Monday – marks the 110th anniversary of the beginning of the Easter Rising in Ireland. The Rising was a pivotal armed insurrection in Irish history that took place in Dublin from April 24 to April 29, 1916.

A small group of Irish republicans, led by figures such as Patrick Pearse, James Connolly, and Thomas Clarke, proclaimed the Irish Republic and seized key buildings in the city center, including the General Post Office (GPO), in an attempt to end British rule. The Easter Rising is widely seen as the catalyst that led to the Irish War of Independence and the eventual creation of the Irish Free State in 1922.

The Rising failed primarily because it was poorly coordinated and lacked widespread support. A last-minute countermanding order issued by Irish Volunteer leader Eoin MacNeill drastically reduced the number of rebels who mobilized outside Dublin, while the interception of a German arms shipment further weakened the planned nationwide uprising. The approximately 1,600 rebels who did take part in Dublin were quickly outnumbered by British forces (which swelled to around 18,000–20,000 troops), outgunned, and eventually overwhelmed by artillery bombardment that devastated the city center. After six days of fighting, Patrick Pearse ordered an unconditional surrender on April 29, 1916, to prevent further civilian casualties.

Thomas J. Clarke, Seán Mac Diarmada, Thomas MacDonagh, P. H. Pearse (Patrick Pearse), Éamonn Ceannt, James Connolly, Joseph Plunkett, William Pearse, John MacBride, Michael Mallin, and Con Colbert were all executed by the British in the week following the end of the RIsing. The rapid pace and secretive nature of the executions, combined with the harsh treatment of wounded leaders like Connolly, provoked a massive shift in Irish public opinion and turned the executed men into national martyrs. This backlash greatly accelerated the movement toward Irish independence.

On to the News

NASA will have coverage of the Artemis moon fly-by today starting at 1300EDT. This afternoon, they’ll surpass Apollo 13’s distance record at 252,757 miles, flying within 4,000 miles of the lunar surface during a six-hour window starting at 2:45 p.m. EDT.

It seems the crew has figured out the toilet issues.

I told you about the Iranians finding a pair of American Eagle ‘Stars & Stripes Stretch Boxers” in the comments section of yesterday’s RNN. Well, they have sold out.

It’s been a good year for American Eagle. Sidney Sweeney and now this.

Epic Fury News

I dunno why they did an ‘article’ for this.

U.S. Continues Strikes into Iran After Successful Rescue of F-15E Aircrew

TAMPA, Fla. — On April 4, U.S. forces successfully completed the rescues of two American service members from Iran after their F-15E fighter jet was shot down April 2 during a combat mission. The service members were safely recovered during separate search and rescue missions. U.S. strikes into Iran continue as U.S. Central Command forces dismantle the Iranian regime’s ability to project power beyond its borders.

Anyways, there is the post:

The Pakistanis are trying to meditate between the US and Iran. Iran, however is having none of it. They rejected the latest proposal and countered with what the US is calling ‘maximalist demands’.

That just means there are going to be fewer Islamists and IRGC members to enjoy the peace when it finally comes.
